GWA Hygiene GmbH, based in Stralsund, offers patented IoT solutions in healthcare, including a technology-assisted hand hygiene monitoring system that helps reduce the spread of hospital-acquired infections. The system, marketed under the name NosoEx®, has already been installed in numerous clinics across 17 countries. The company is supported by well-known investors. In addition to medical and safety technology manufacturer Dräger, investors such as MIG Capital and the High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) have invested several million euros.

Hypros GmbH & Co. KG, based in Lübeck, specializes in precise real-time location tracking (RTLS) of devices and offers a scalable IoT platform for healthcare. This enables the optimization of internal processes in hospitals. Hypros is a market leader in asset tracking in German healthcare facilities, managing over 30,000 assets across more than 1.8 million square meters.

The acquisition will accelerate the digital transformation of healthcare by creating a shared infrastructure, interconnected applications, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI). The focus is on a joint portfolio of solutions such as:

  • Asset tracking
  • Temperature monitoring of medication refrigerators
  • Bed management
  • Hand hygiene monitoring
  • Contactless patient monitoring
  • Alarm management

The decision to acquire was based on many years of successful collaboration and joint innovation projects. The companies first worked together on blood culture tracking and indoor navigation projects at the University Medical Center Greifswald. That collaboration demonstrated technical, professional, and interpersonal synergies, which will now be further intensified.

Tobias Gebhardt
, Managing Director of GWA Hygiene GmbH, emphasizes:

“Due to the increasing shortage of skilled workers and demographic change, patient-centered care standards can no longer be maintained. We need solutions that ease the workload for existing hospital staff. Starting in hygiene, this acquisition is a fantastic expansion of our solution portfolio for patient safety. We are convinced that this takeover will strengthen our market position and further enhance our ability to deliver innovative solutions for the healthcare sector.”

Max Golubew, Managing Director of Hypros, adds:

“The acquisition by GWA enables us to better meet growing market demand without needing additional growth investments and to combine our software expertise with GWA’s hardware competence. Together, we are creating a unique IoT platform for healthcare.”

In addition to the newly formed team, the partner network will also be expanded and strengthened through the acquisition. In addition to GWA Hygiene’s existing partnerships with B. BraunHARTMANN, and Google, new collaborations with system integrators such as AirITSystems, brought by Hypros, will be added.

About GWA Hygiene GmbH:

Founded in 2015, GWA Hygiene employs over 30 people and is a leading provider of solutions in the field of patient safety, including practical IoT solutions.

Up to 90% of pathogens are spread via hands. However, only every second hand disinfection is actually carried out, posing a risk to patients. To implement effective prevention measures, data-driven insights into hygiene behavior are essential. GWA Hygiene’s NosoEx® monitoring system provides such data and can track all hand disinfections and differentiate them by professional groups.

new addition to the product portfolio is a “Made in Germany” contactless patient monitoring solution. It can detect entries and exits into the patient care zone and verify whether hand disinfection was performed beforehand. Other use cases include fall detectionidentification of delirium risk factors, and monitoring of environmental factors. This system paves the way for the patient room of the future.

About Hypros GmbH & Co. KG:

Founded in 2016, Hypros employs over 10 people and has established itself as an expert in asset tracking and tailored software-IoT systems for healthcare.

In a setting where the availability and condition of medical equipment are critical for smooth hospital operations, Hypros offers solutions that ensure the right equipment is at the right place at the right time. Using innovative real-time location technologies (RTLS), they help quickly locate patients, beds, and medical devices.

A lack of coordination and process analysis can lead to unsafe and inefficient patient care. Hypros addresses this by using precise device positioning to optimize internal workflows. Their systems can simultaneously capture and document various sensor data, such as temperature, humidity, and button presses. This not only improves individual processes but also enables early detection of potential issues.

The flexibility and adaptability of Hypros’ solutions are key features that allow them to meet the individual requirements of various healthcare use cases. Thanks to a modular system configuration, they offer scalable solutions that meet both current and future needs.
